The fashion designer as dream maker

Thesis project about the indirect visual language of fashion designers, in comparison with the more direct visual language of a graphic designer.

Indirect visual language; a process that comes from a personal thought/event which stands out in images and materials. Direct visual language; a process that is based on a theoretical approach.

The thesis included three fashion designers (Martin Margiela, Issey Miyake and Walter van Beirendonck) and three graphic designers (Martin Margiela, Ikko Tanaka and Raw color) from the 1980s till 2017. The ‘80s was the starting point, because it was a turning point in both of the disciplines in that period, where fashion and graphic designers broke the rules of how to design.
